The Secrets of Storytelling

A series of foundation courses in creative writing, designed, for both beginners and established writers with no formal training.

The series is written and presented by Hammond House founder Ted Stanley, who uses his unique teaching methods developed when running workshops for writers in Lincolnshire. Ted takes you step by step and at your own pace through a series of explanations and exercises that build your knowledge and skill by imagining, writing, editing and improving a short story.

You can submit your finished story for consideration to be published in the annual anthology of members' work. The course is designed be covered over six weeks, practising the exercises and developing your story, moving from one workshop to the next. You can choose to do it over a shorter period, take longer, or stop for a while and go back to it later. The workshops will always be available here for you to watch when you need some inspiration or a recap on writing techniques.

Hammond House is a not for profit community organisation. All proceeds from the sales of courses and publications support our mission to encourage the development of talented people across the creative arts.

'Writing is a craft and, like any other craft you have to learn a range of skills in order to practice it successfully. The more skillful you become the better you are able to get those wonderful ideas out of you head and onto the page.'
